SAIE SELECTIONS 2012 “The built environment renewal. Regenerate and improve – Highly innovative and sustainable solutions”

Deadline for receipt of entries is 8 September 2012.

BolognaFiere and Archi-Europe jointly organize a special contest“SAIESelection” in order to select 18 projects and concepts (9 for young architects and 9 for students) on the theme “The built environment renewal. Regenerate and improve – Highly innovative and sustainable solutions”.

All 18 projects and/or concepts will be presented in a special dedicated exhibition ‘Cuore Mostra Saie 2011’ in the framework of the SAIE International Building Exhibition taking place in Bologna (Italy) from October 18 to October 21, 2012.

The contest is open to Young architects (under 40) and to Students in architecture and engineering.

All presented projects will have to respect following fundamental parameters:

a. The use of sustainable criteria (referring to life cycle of the project) taking into account efficiency criteria aiming at reaching ‘zero emission’ solutions.
b. Innovative solutions which integrates different materials, technologies, systems or building methods
c. Competitive costs. The costs of the project will include the evaluation of operation and maintenance costs.

Following categories are open:

• Urban regeneration and development (proposals aimed at regenerating and refurbishing buildings and urban spaces, including historic and environmental sites)
• Housing requalification  (proposals aimed at improving the housing performance and efficiency, which may involve changing its intended use)
• Property development and revaluation (proposals on architectural, environmental and landscaping heritage aimed at ensuring the conservation and the fruition)

Beside these templates, participants should also complete the Description innovativity and integration form.

PRIZES /////////////////////

the top rated projects from each category (3 young architects + 3 students) will be invited to Bologna at Saie and will have the opportunity to present their winning project in the framework of a workshop lead by architect Mario Cucinella

the second and third rated projects from each category (12 in total) will be displayed, along with the winning projects, during the special dedicated exhibition located in Centro Servizi SAIE.

All projects will be published on specialized press and Italian newspapers
