The 18th Pan-American Architecture Bienniale Quito launched the WORLDWIDE COMPETITION on category: SOCIAL HABITAT AND DEVELOPMENT.
The necessary architecture, the city needed.
 The competition is oriented to identify and promote architectural practices and built projects that demonstrate having a positive and tangible impact in the improvemente of the living conditions of low-income families and the improvemente of a built environment of society.
This category is open for built projects or programs of new or renovated social habitat, built in the American continent during the period in between 2008 to 2012 and that have not participated in previous BAQ editions.
Emphasis will be given to projects or programs that consider the importance of:
- Neighborhood and public space improvement.
- Revitalization of urban environment.
- Participation and management strategies in design, implementation and maintenance.
- Cultural and aesthetic inputs that reinforce a community’s identity.
- Building safety and climatic comfort.
ELEGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS ////////////////
Worldwide competition [CATEGORIE C]: can participate worldwide architects, that are legally authorized to practice in their country of residence individually or collectively, in private or public entities. The application form should state the name(s) of the architect(s) who is(are) the author(s) of the work.

DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT ///////////////////
- Copy of the Application form that can be downloaded from the oficial website www.baq-cae.ec
- One (1) soft sheet in a vertical format A0 (84,10cm X 118.80cm) printed and laminated.
It will include the following:
- Descriptive memoir of the project(Fonts: Arial )
- Credits of the Project: Author (s), owner or promoter (private or public entity) and collaborators of the project
- Drawings: Site plan, floor plans, elevations (facades) , sections and details (must include graphic scale).
- Photographs, graphic elements and other texts that will allow the total comprehension of the project.
One (1) digital support (CD or DVD) that contains:
- One (1) folder named by the Registration code ( this code is generated automatically with the Application form). Inside this folder there should be six (6) folders:
- APPLICATION FORM: Application form in JPEG format.
- SHEET: Sheet participating in contest, in PDF format, size A0.
- DESCRIPTIVE MEMOIR: WORD format document with the descriptive memoir.
- PHOTOGRAPHS: High-resolution pictures, size A4, 300 dpi, JPEG format.
- DRAWINGS: Drawings in PDF format.
- SELECTED PHOTOGRAPH: one (1) photograph of the project selected for the publication in the BAQ 2012 book.

Entries should be sent through each country’s coordinator or thought the contestants, in the following conditions:
- Without any kind of support, flexible sheet.
- The weight shall not exceed 2 kg per package.
Important: To prevent packages being held up by Costumes and/or Postal Service, the contestans should follow these instructions:
The shipment must be DDP (all the payments made by the sender)

The Colegio de Arquitectos del Ecuador, Pichincha Province and the Biennial Commission 2012 reserves the exclusive right to chose the Jury. The Jury’s decision is final and reserves the right to withhold the award of one or more of the categories. The CAE-P will award the author(s) of the project stating in the Application form of the project.
