The four projects included in the following pages are all monolithic in character. In the Netherlands, two interventions in old bunkers highlight these qualities: the Dutch artist Erick de Lyon – with the landscape architects of Rietveld (RAAAF) – by way of a deep crack that unveils a tiny interior space; and the Brussels studio B-ILD through a platform that brings out the thickness of the walls. And in Switzerland, two new shelters display that same massive appearance: the Geneva-based Bureau A wrap a small wood cabin in sprayed concrete; and Selina Walder and Georg Nickisch, from their studio in Flims, use an old hut from the Alps as shuttering.
Los cuatro proyectos que siguen tienen en común su carácter pétreo y monolítico. En los Países Bajos, dos intervenciones en antiguos bunkers ponen en valor estas cualidades: el artista holandés Erick de Lyon —con los pai- sajistas Rietveld— mediante una enorme grieta que desvela el minúsculo interior; el estudio de Bruselas B-ILD a través de una plataforma cuya superficie evidencia el grosor de los muros. Y en Suiza, dos nuevos refugios comparten esa ima- gen masiva: los ginebrinos Bureau A envuelven una pequeña cabaña de madera en hormigón proyectado; y Selina Walder y Georg Nickisch, con estudio en Flims, utilizan como encofrado una antigua cabaña de los Alpes.

Kahawa – Coffee & Books by Atelier Starzak Strebicki
Imagine a café, a reading room, a bookstore and a coffee roasting company all located in a refurbished former milk bar. The idea to create a place that would meet various needs of book lovers and coffee enthusiasts was a consequence of bringing together owners’ professional passion (for books) and memories of exotic (African) childhood. The space is divided into three zones that clearly illustrate this multifunctional concept.
