Ecosistema Urbano. Urban Social Design. Belinda Tato and José Luis Vallejo founded Ecosistema Urbano in the year 2000, a multidisciplinary studio with offices in Madrid and Miami. They define their approach as ‘urban social design,’ in which urbanism, architecture, engineering, and sociology tools converge. The result of this sum of disciplines is an architecture that gives maximum prominence to spaces and dynamics that improve people’s self-organization, social interaction within com- munities and their relationship with the envi- ronment. Tato and Vallejo are both professors at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design since 2010, and they have implemented their projects in various countries around the world.
Renzo Piano RPBW. Academy Museum. On the famous Miracle Mile of Los Angeles, Renzo Piano is finishing the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, a project of almost 28,000 square meters on the campus of the LACMA, next to the three buildings designed by the Genoan architect to extend the Californian venue: the pavilion of access, the Broad Contemporary Art Museum, and the Resnick Pavilion. The project maintains and extends the old warehouse of the May Company, from 1939 – known today as the Saban Building –, removing the additions of 1946 and replacing them with a spherical volume that contains an audi- torium with capacity for 1,000 spectators and a terrace with panoramic views of Hollywood.
